UPSC IAS Prelims Preparation: UPSC conducts an examination every year to recruit people for the civil services of India. Several services like IAS, IRS, ITS fall under the civil service category in India and all these services are highly reputable. There are mainly three stages in this exam, and the UPSC prelim is the first stage.

This stage is comparatively easier than the other stages, but you need to prepare for it. There might be several coaching centers in your city, but you might want to study at home in order to save both, time and effort. Here are some tips which might make this tedious process a bit easier for you.

Formate of UPSC Preliminary exam:

Candidates who are going to start self-preparation at home should have to know the complete format of the UPSC prelims test. You will have to clear two MCQs which will be objective types.

The two papers will be:

  • Paper 1: General studies
  • Paper 2: General studies (CSAT)

The first paper, that is, paper one will be for two hours. The full marks for that paper are around 200 marks. There will be around a hundred questions in that paper. In order to qualify for the second stage, you need to obtain the cut-off marks decided by the UPSC that year. In the second paper, there will be around 80 questions.

The total marks that can be obtained in that paper are 200 marks, and the exam will be held for two hours. You have to get qualify in this exam and get a minimum of 33 percent in this paper. This means that you have to at least get 66 on 200 to qualify. Both the papers will have negative marking in order to cut down the competition. The marks obtained in the second paper will only be used for qualifying, not for ranking.

Tips To Study For Prelims Preparation At Home:

Start the UPSC IAS Prelims Preparation For Your Exam On-Time: You need to keep at least a year in your hand to prepare for the UPSC preliminary exam. Even though it is the first stage, a lot of people get rejected at this stage. You have to focus on those topics that overlap the mains as well as the preliminary exams. You should be dedicated and start to prepare rigorously, two months before the preliminary exams.

Make Your Routine: Since you want to study at home, it is better than you make your plan. Your plan should include what chapters you aim to study within a certain period and how many hours do you want to dedicate to your studies. Only making a routine, however, is not enough. You need to follow it as well o get extraordinary results. Even if you might get distracted at times, try to cut down the distractions to achieve your goal.

Prepare For CSAT: Students who come from a science background might find it easy to solve this paper as their mathematical skills are good. They just need to solve a few question papers, but the other needs to work a bit more as they have to get at least 33 percent of this paper to qualify.

Know About The Current Affairs: You cannot just mug up and clear the UPSC exam. You need to know the current affairs. Try to read the news articles that are related to your topics in the syllabus to get great results.

Practice More Mock Papers For IAS:

Practicing with mock papers will help you to improve your speed. If you get familiarized to the exam pattern, then you can complete the whole paper. You can only spend a minute on each question, and there is no scope for you to give incorrect answers as that results in negative marking. The UPSC Recruitment board has released the official notification for the IAS Prelims examination on 2nd February 2022. The Online Registration for the IAS Exams has started on 2nd Feb 2022. The UPSC Board officials have closed to take the online & offline application on 22nd Feb 2022. The Board of UPSC is going to organize the IAS Prelims exam on 5th June 2022.
