Solar Rooftop Scheme: The government of India launches Solar Rooftop Scheme with an investment of Rs.5000 crores across the Nation. The central government plans to render solar power with a target of 100 GW and of which the rooftop scheme shall include 40 GW energy.

The government introduced a rooftop scheme with the basic motive of replacing the conventionally generated electricity with renewable solar power energy. Every state government is responsible to implement solar rooftop technology through their electricity distribution companies or DISCOMs. The central government has assigned the target to the state governments to complete the 100 GW solar power by 2022.

Salient Features: 

1. The project is that the central/state governments shall provide subsidies on solar panels and allow to make monthly installment payments for the rooftop equipment.

2. The beneficiary (user) can find a reduction in the electricity payment rates. On utilizing the rooftop technology, the beneficiary can pay as low as INR 6.50 per kWh the energy.

3. It is the mandatory/ responsibility of the States/Union Territories to complete the set target in promoting the rooftop scheme.

Essential Documents for Solar Roof Installation:

The new applicant for the rooftop scheme must be ready with the following documents for uploading on the web portal. They are a passport-size photograph, digitally scanned signature, latest electricity bill, present proof of ownership of the building, and an affidavit that defines the proof of relationship with the building owner.

Procedure to Apply for Solar Rooftop Scheme Online:

1st step: The new users must insert the rooftop web portal ie. www.solarrooftop.gov.in and click on the search button.

2nd Step: The web portal shall open the home page on which the applicant is advised to click on the ‘Apply for Solar Rooftop’ link.

3rd Step: Instantly, a new web page shall be on display and one can find a list of application links that confine to all the states and UTs under the scheme’s purview.

4th Step: The applicant must pick the concerned DISCOM and the website of the company shall be on display.

5th Step: The applicant must click on ‘Apply Online.’ And, the applicant is advised to create a one-time registration profile and then log in.

6th Step: The applicant must follow a few steps such as reaching the dashboard, clicking on the ‘Application form.’

7th Step: The applicant must hover the dropdown list, and then tap ‘apply for the solar rooftop.’ Depending on the nature of subsidy one chooses (with or without), the applicant must select the respective form.

8th Step: The applicant must fill in the form with the following details such as the applicant’s name, connection type, address, area, etc.

9th Step: The applicant must upload all the essential documents as mentioned in the formats. Then, press the ‘save button.’

10th Step: Depending upon the requirement, the applicant must remit the applicable amount and complete the application.

Pan India e-Governance Services app: Energy Sector:

1. The central government has developed two specific mobile applications to pull the citizens towards the e-governance platform to benefit from the rooftop scheme. UMANG & Sande’s apps both function with a purpose. It is for the citizens to access Pan-India e-Gov Services. They belong to Central, State, UT, Local Bodies, Govt agencies on app and IVR channels. Likewise, the citizens who plan to utilize the rooftop scheme that falls under the energy sector can utilize the above-mentioned apps.

2. The NIC & Govt of India has developed sandes, an open-source indigenous instant messaging platform.

  • It built on impressive features such as it engages end to end encrypted messaging, backup, and OTP services.
  • This app technology is made available to end-users at free of cost. Currently, the Sandes app integrates with NIC email, Digi Locker, and e-office.
  • Only two sections of users are allowed to seek the Sandes features. They are government verified users and employees of government organizations.
  • Only the Govt verified users will access all Features of the Sandes app at present.
