All these changes are taken about on the basis of the strong objectives of our Prime Minister to safeguard the wellbeing of all those who protect the Nation putting their lives on the line.
This scheme is being implemented with an aim to provide a new ray of hope to the widows and wards of the deceased service personnel and encouraging them to pursue higher education if they intend to, and also technical education that would help them in finding a job to run their families.
The scholarship amount now has been increased to Rs.2500/- per month for boys and Rs.3000 per month for girls against the previously set amount of Rs.2000 per month for boys and Rs. 2250 per month for Females (Girls) respectively.
The new scholarship quota forwards for the country police officials is Rupees 500 per year. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been given the responsibility to keep track of these activities.
The inclusion of the state police forces in this scheme will benefit the children of martyrs like Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Tukaram Omble who lost his life in a fight against the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008, formerly they were not covered under this scholarship scheme but they will now be eligible for scholarships under this plan.
